WE NURTURE YOUR STYLE.
HAU presents HAU Vegan Mycelium Leather, a sustainable alternative made from mycelium. While preserving the aesthetics and luxury feel of traditional leather, we aim to eliminate its environmental harm.
HAU Mycelium Leather is the result of laboratory work combining the binding power of
mushrooms with the expertise of the HAU team. While raising cattle is a lengthy and resourceintensive process, HAU Vegan Leather can be grown in just 4 weeks. Since we source our raw material entirely from mushrooms within our internal processes, we are unaffected by disruptions in the supply chain.
HAU Mycelium Leather offers numerous advantages over traditional leather and plastic materials used in the fashion, clothing, and automotive industries. Vibrant colors and durable textures can be achieved without the use of harmful chemicals. Surface treatments can be performed using heat and bio-based chemicals instead of petroleum-derived coatings. It provides more options aesthetically than traditional leather and is sustainably viable in terms of production methods.
WHY HAU VEGAN MYCELIUM LEATHER:
We Support the Concept of Responsible and Sustainable Fashion.
Traditional leather production typically involves using animal hides, which means animals are slaughtered or harmed. Mycelium leather is produced using fungal mycelium, so animals are not harmed.
During the digestive process of animals on farms, methane gas is emitted, and the traditional leather production process involves the use of over 250 toxic heavy metals and chemicals such as aldehydes, cyanide, and lead. Today, the leather industry has become a sector that threatens environmental sustainability and natural resources due to production without environmental consciousness. Synthetic PU Leather, as an alternative, faces criticism for its use of fossil fuels in production, use of unnatural dyes, excessive water consumption, and contribution to microplastic pollution.
H A U M y c e l i um L e a t h e r s i g n i f i c a n t l y r e d u c e s environmental impact: it emits 98% less carbon compared to cowhide and 83% less compared to synthetic leather, offering less burden for our planet and more style for you.
If you have a pair of shoes made from cowhide, your carbon footpr int i s 53 kg CO₂-eq. However, if you opt for shoes made from HAU Vegan Leather, this value drops to 1.2 kg CO₂- eq.
